Q. What is a Level III Referral Unit?


Almas Hospital's Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) is categorized as a Level III facility. It offers top-class neonatal care standards that duly comply with the globally accepted practice of grading care at NICUs.
India features a three-tier care system that is established according to the weight and gestational age of the newborn child.

Level I

Neonates that weigh more than 1.8 kg or have a gestational maturity of 8 months or greater are kept under Level 1 care. It entails basic care at birth time, maintaining a warm and infection-free, and promotion of breastfeeding.

Level II

Neonates that weigh more than 1.2 – 1.8 kg or have a gestational maturity of 7-8 months are characterised under Level II care. We have a team of skilled nurses and highly qualified paediatricians to look after the admitted neonates. Our Level II facilities offer equipment for resuscitation, thermos neutral environment, intravenous infusion, gavage feeding, phototherapy, and blood transfusion.

Level III

Neonates weighing less than 1.2 kg or having a gestational maturity of fewer than 7 months are kept under Level III care. The care is at larger institutions that are equipped with centralized oxygen and suction facilities, servo-controlled incubators, vital signs monitors, transcutaneous monitors, ventilators, and infusion pumps. Our staff of skilled nurses and world-leading neonatologists are there to facilitate the patients. We have equipped beds that offer 24-hours one-to-one care to meticulously monitor the treatment progress.
